Why Triq Built Basalt as One Platform

Most organizations don't run one kind of infrastructure — they run laptops that leave the building, sites with a network that can't be counted on, data centers that have to consolidate without adding risk, and a footprint that answers to central oversight without depending on it to function. Basalt is one platform for all of them.

Mission

One Platform Instead of Five Products

Meeting every one of those needs has historically meant buying a different product for each — a hypervisor for the data center, a separate tool for the edge, a separate story for endpoints, and a separate console to tie them together — then stitching them into one operation with separate security models and separate teams, and hoping the seams hold.

Triq Technologies builds Basalt to remove that trade-off. We started with the hardest version of the problem: infrastructure that has to keep running for defense and government missions with no guarantee of connectivity, no technician nearby, and no room for error. Basalt treats disconnection and constraint as normal operating conditions rather than edge cases, and the same platform that holds up there scales into the data center and across a global enterprise footprint — because it was designed as one system rather than assembled from parts that were never meant to fit together.

The result is a platform organizations can run the same way everywhere it is deployed, so their teams manage outcomes instead of managing tools.

The same virtualization core, security model, and management experience extend from a single disconnected device to a globally distributed enterprise footprint. Every host runs the same lightweight agent and reports through the same APIs, identity model, and audit framework, so operators learn one system instead of several and there is no second console for small sites.

Built for Real-World Conditions

Basalt assumes networks will drop and resources will be constrained, because for a meaningful share of the organizations it serves, that is the normal day. Each agent keeps a complete local copy of the state it needs — workloads, network configuration, and security policy — so a disconnected host keeps running, rebuilds itself after a reboot, and reconciles automatically when the link returns.

Licensing That Rewards Consolidation

Entitlement is scoped to how a deployment is used, not metered by how many hosts, processors, cores, or sockets it happens to run. Replacing aging hardware with denser systems or adding capacity to a storage cluster does not automatically trigger a licensing increase, so the efficiency gain from consolidating stays a gain.

Openness Over Lock-In

Basalt uses an open, KVM-based virtual machine format rather than a proprietary one, so a workload built on a managed laptop runs in a managed data center with no conversion step. It also runs alongside an incumbent virtualization platform, region by region, so adoption happens in evaluated waves on the organization's timeline instead of a single high-risk cutover.
